Primary School Teacher Awarded £155,000 in Compensation after she was assaulted by a pupil

Updated: Dec 6, 2022

By NVC Awareness – Positive Handling Training 2021

Recently a primary school teacher was awarded £155,000 in compensation after suffering “severe injuries” to her hand and wrist when she was assaulted by a pupil.  Conversely this could have been an injury to a young person!

The teacher was among dozens of teachers who shared total compensation of more than £11.7 million last year after being legally represented by their union, the NASUWT.

In addition, a local authority was also fined a six-figure sum for failing to put safe systems of work in place to prevent or manage challenging, aggressive and violent behaviours within the workplace.

Could you be next?

Here’s The Problem

I know that you are probably well aware of the risk that your staff are exposed to.

I also know that you are also very well aware of the risks to the children who attend your school, especially those who need to be physically managed by your staff.

I also appreciate that you probably get lots of emails from training providers wanting to sell you positive handling training and I appreciate that you don’t have the time to filter through them all to ensure that you are doing your proper due diligence, so it’s difficult to know which ones are good and which are not so good.

I also understand that because as a head teacher you are very busy with all of the targets and KPI’s that you need to meet in addition to the day to day running of your school. I get that!

But thea problem that remains is that if you don’t choose your positive handling training provider wisely you could be actually creating a lot more work for yourself that could have be avoided with a little bit of effort here (and trust me, it’s definitely worth putting in that effort now).

This is where I can help you…

I want to offer you a solution that’s completely FREE and which can save you time and money whilst keeping your staff and children safe and also reducing your liability.

You need to do something because you may end up running a massive liability that could cost you tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds (plus all of the indirect costs that the bad publicity will bring – and the stress that goes with it!).

4 Offers For You That You Shouldn’t Refuse

I’d like to offer you:

  1. A Free 1-2-1 (with colleagues) to discuss any current concerns or training needs

  2. A Free 45-minute webinar ‘preventing and managing challenging behaviour’ / ‘positive handling’

  3. A Free review of your schools restraint policy should you decide to book a 1-day training course.

  4. Free e-book – 7 Things you need to know before booking a Training Provider

6 Reasons Why Should You Listen To Me? But why should you listen to me, when there are so many positive handling training providers out there that you can choose from? Hopefully the following will explain that for you:

  1. Apart from being a very established trainer, and consultant, I am also an Expert Witness (one of the UK’s most respected and experienced) on the Use of Force in The UK, having done hundreds of expert witness cases. This means I can provide training for you that is legally defensible, which will reduce your liability exponentially! (See the testimonial below).

  2. As a former head of Staff Safety training for a major Police Service I have experience in not only delivering training but experience in developing, reviewing, evaluating and auditing training. This means that I can ensure that any training I deliver will meet your schools specific needs and evolve to continually do so as part of my bespoke training developmental approach (at no additional cost to you).

  3. As part of my commitment to you, I will provide you with a pro-active management feedback document after each course, which acts as an evidential audit trail of the training’s effectiveness and development.

  4. I can deliver ‘accredited’ and ‘certificated’ training that is recognised by both the Institute of Conflict Management (ICM) and NFPS Ltd, which means that you will be getting training with external quality assurance built in (again) at no additional cost to you!

  5. I give a 100% No Quibble Money Back Guarantee, which means that if you are in any way unhappy with my training delivery I guarantee that I will either not invoice you or if the training has already been paid for refund without delay the full amount. That means all the risk is on me and you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

  6.  I also provide my personal guarantee that if any aspect of the training is questioned or if you are challenged in any way that I will be available to come to any meetings to support you and justify the training delivery at no additional charge to you. I generally charge £200 plus VAT per hour, plus expenses where my presence is requested as an Expert Witness or by agencies who would like me to review their training post an investigation or challenge. I do all of the ‘heavy lifting’ for my clients, which means that all of the things that you should be doing, such as:

  • Training reviews,

  • Post course reports (pro-active management feedback);

  • Policy reviews,

  • Training development,

  • Recommendations and training course amendments, so that the training evolves over time (did you know that most training providers cannot evidence any training development based on any formal training needs analysis?).

Are all done for you by me so you don’t have to worry about any of it.

A Testimonial From Mark Dawes “I have known Trevel for many years and he is the most knowledgeable, competent, trustworthy and honest person I know with very high standards and values. Trevel’s knowledge and understanding of training delivery, design and development is possibly the best you could hope for in the UK today. His positive handling training for schools is very comprehensive and covers everything your staff need to be able to manage and restrain pupils safely whilst maintaining staff safety (and he is always on hand if you need any post training support too).  His training includes: the legal aspects (including schools legislation and guidance), health and safety legislation, safeguarding, trauma informed practice and he explains the importance of the delicate balance between your staff’s ‘power’ to use force and the ‘duty’ of care owed to everyone (which most trainers either don’t understand or cover). One unique aspect of Trevel’s training is that of an Expert Witness who has been involved in many cases. Trevel also brings the ability to safeguard you and your staff from making the mistakes that other companies and individuals have made that have ended up with them being prosecuted in court. And he’s always there to support you if and when you need him to. Trevel is therefore, without doubt, possibly the best insurance policy your school could hope for. I can’t recommend him highly enough.”
