Having an exit strategy allows you to leave a potentially high risk situation. Knowing how and when to exit prevents you having to stand your ground or having to try and argue your way out of the situation.

Every plan to prevent and manage workplace conflict must have an exit strategy built into it. Failure to have an exit strategy built into your plan, is planning to fail!
