Who is the course designed for?

The Health & Safety Executive defines Lone Workers as someone who for long periods or from time-to-time works in isolation, by themselves without close or direct supervision. 


Possible areas of risk include lone working on premises, 1:1 meetings, home visits, travel away from workplace settings, community outreach meetings or visits. Individuals and staff who are concerned about their personal safety and would like to develop strategies to support current policies and training towards conflict resolution.

Course syllabus

  • Understand the law relating to lone working

  • Identify the risks relating to lone working

  • Understand the importance of pre-visit risk assessments

  • Demonstrate different conflict resolution strategies

  • Recognise the warning and danger signs of impending aggression and violence

  • Understand the importance of assertion skills

  • Construct practical exit strategies

  • Learn appropriate breakaway and disengagement techniques
