Who is the course designed for?

Already qualified:

  • physical intervention trainers 

  • physical restraint trainers

  • control and restraint trainers

who wish to continue to deliver physical intervention training (non-restrictive, restrictive, positive handling, safe-holding, safer-restraint and control & restraint techniques) skills across a number of work-related sectors. Including Children’s Services, Education, Health Services, Social Care, NHS, Retail Sector, Transport and Public Services. 


In order to receive your Institute of Conflict Management’s (ICM) L323 Delivering Physical Intervention Trainer Training Re-certification certificate (ie; licence to practice), trainers must hold a valid, teaching, conflict management and physical intervention teaching/trainer qualifications, or equivalent license's. 

Level 3 physical intervention trainer training course syllabus

Pre-course reading, classroom, practical skills learning and micro-teach observation:

  • Completion of pre course mandatory assignment

  • Review professional and legal implications relating to the use of reasonable force

  • Demonstrate application of the ICM L225 physical intervention skills

  • Delivery of a physical intervention technique micro-teach

  • Observation of micro-teach delivery of a physical intervention technique

Post training support is offered as part of our client customer service provision

What are the benefits of this level 3 physical intervention trainer training course? 

The ICM L323 DPST Re-certification qualification-licence is valid for a period of one year, from the date of issue.  The techniques taught on this course have been medically risk assessed to the standards set by the ICM.  The ICM was specifically referenced with the Department of Health, 2019 document; Reducing the Need for Restraint and Restrictive Intervention.
