LEVEL 3 HANDCUFF TRAINING  INSTRUCTOR COURSE 

Who is the level 3 handcuff instructor course designed for?

Trainers who wish to teach the Safe Application and Removal of Restraint Equipment (ie; Rigid, Hinged, Chain-linked and/or Soft Cuffs). 

 

In order to be able to deliver the safe application and removal of restraint equipment training, all trainers should hold currently recognised Teaching, Conflict Management and Physical Intervention delivery of training qualifications or BTEC awards.  

 

The handcuff training instrutors course also covers the use of safer restraint holding prior to applying mechanical restraints also known as handcuffs. The legal duty of care, human rights, the reporting of the use of force and policies and procedures relating to the management of risk.

  • Knowledge check and recap conflict resolution and physical intervention skills

  • Know the types of cuffing equipment currently available for use

  • Understand the law relating to the use of restraint equipment

  • Understand the medical implications regarding the use of restraint equipment

  • Demonstrate the safe application and removal of restraint equipment 

  • Review post incident management and welfare support 

  • Deliver instruction in the safe use of restraint equipment
